Job Opening: CA-07 Constituency Organizer

CA-07 Congressional District

Location: Sacramento County Area

Position Summary:

The California Democratic Party seeks a Constituency Organizer to work in Congressional District 7 (CA-07) for the Congressional Campaign Program during the 2018 election cycle.

Constituency Organizers will be responsible for assisting in implementing the field organizing program, including but not limited to engaging constituency groups and leaders, training and managing volunteers, expanding volunteer and grassroots networks. Constituency Organizers will execute outreach to key stakeholders in the community, plan and host grassroots events and voter contact tactics such as phone banks, canvasses, voter registration drives, and visibility events. Constituency Organizers should be high energy, outgoing, enthusiastic, and organized.

Strong communication and motivational skills, work ethic, and passion for issue advocacy are essential. Candidates must be able to work within a progressive coalition team, have proven leadership ability, time management skills, and experience handling a lot of responsibility. Strong self-direction and the ability to take initiative are also necessary qualifications. The position would be based in CA-07, which includes parts of Sacramento County.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Support and continue to build a large coalition membership and network to support a regional and advocacy agenda, focused on maintaining the current CA-07 Congressional seat in 2018;
  • Help build strategic partnerships and alliances among diverse groups and constituencies in the region;
  • Recruit new members, volunteers, and affiliates to the coalition;
  • Working and communicating regularly with our Congressional District Field Director and Congressional Campaign Program team;
  • Plan and host grassroots events and voter contact activities, such as phone banks, canvasses, voter registration drives, and visibility events; and
  • Keep consistent records about meetings, events, contacts, and work schedule on a centralized calendar

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Organizational skills and ability to meet goals and strict deadlines;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Frequent travel within the Congressional District is required;
  • Commitment to electing Democrats;
  • High attention to detail; and
  • Other duties as required

Language and Communication Skills:

  • Strong public speaking, writing, and analytical skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and relational skills;
  • Experience supervising volunteers preferred;
  • Must be able to meet deadlines, be responsive, stay organized, attention to detail, and demonstrate excellent communication skills;
  • Read, comprehend and write general instructions, professional correspondence, and memos;
  • Ability to collaborate and participate in complex decision-making processes;
  • Effectively present information in one-on-one and group situations;
  • Analytical approach to problem-solving; and
  • Bilingual a plus but not required

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • An independent thinker and problem-solver, a planner who is also self-motivated and a team player;
  • Support the CDP’s goal to take back the House in 2018; and
  • Ability to meet multiple shifting deadlines and priorities with nimbleness and flexibility while maintaining a perspective on long-term goals.
