2018 Community Engagement Program – Program Director

Position Summary:

The California Democratic Party (CDP) seeks an experienced Community Engagement Program Director for the CDP 2018 Statewide Campaign Program.  The candidate should have management experience in grassroots/field organizing, community engagement, voter engagement and outreach, coalition building, and communications and/or media relations.  Strong self-direction and the ability to take initiative are necessary qualifications.  The Community Engagement Program Director will work with the CDP Community Engagement Program team and all CDP Departments.  The position reports to the CDP Political Director.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the 2018 Community Engagement Program, including but not limited to day-to-day operations, supervision of Program staff, and other administrative duties as required
  • Create and implement a comprehensive community outreach and engagement plan with metrics with CDP Senior Staff, CDP Political Department, and the CDP Community Engagement Program team
  • Work with the Community Engagement team and the CDP Departments on Democratic leadership and organizational outreach to strengthen intra-party relationships, engage in Party-building activities and events, and community organizing
  • Work with the CDP Political Department and the CDP Operations Department to promote and provide Party resources support to the intra-party organizations, such as training; grassroots voter registration/Bounty Program; Mobilize, Organize, Elect (MOE) voter file system, Hustle, VoterCircle, and other available resources
  • Work with the CDP Community Engagement Program Team to build coalitions and strategic partnerships with allied organizations in key targeted areas to strengthen relations with the CDP and to collaborate on community organizing and engagement
  • Work with the Communications Director, the Creative Director, and the Political Director on earned media outreach, digital outreach, messaging, and the production of outreach materials
  • Work with the CDP Departments, the Community Engagement Program team, and the campaign team to develop and maintain an ongoing surrogate speaker program
  • Engage with the CDP Departments and the campaign team to provide general support to legislative campaigns in key areas
  • Create and maintain a comprehensive database of key community contacts statewide
  • Engage in direct community outreach and organizing in one or more of key constituencies of the Program
  • Frequent traveling is required
  • Provide support the CDP campaign program and outreach programs as needed


Qualities and Qualification Requirements:

  • Strong task management aptitude and/or demonstrated skills
  • Possess demonstrated skills at setting and communicating priorities
  • Proficiency in computer skills
  • Strong writing, analytical, and public speaking skills
  • Bilingual skills a plus
  • Deadline-oriented and detail-oriented while managing responsibilities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Be willing to contribute to the team effort by performing other tasks as needed
  • Understanding of the Democratic Party structure
  • Understanding of general policy issues, community dynamics, and social and political culture relating to millennials
  • At least 3 years of experience in grassroots or community organizing, field organizing, communications, and/or media relations, with staff and volunteer management component
