Increasing Representation at the County Level

RESOLUTION 15-08.37L

Increasing Representation at the County Level

WHEREAS the promotion of increased democracy, diversity, accessibility of elected officials to their constituents and government accountability are all core principles of the California Democratic Party; and

WHEREAS the California Democratic Party supports increasing opportunities for California’s citizens to be represented fairly at all levels and when population grows, it is important to consider whether the citizenry has adequate representation at all levels of government from city councils to boards of supervisors; and

WHEREAS having additional political representation provides more opportunity for elected officials to be available to their constituents and to reflect the diversity of the communities they serve; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the California Democratic Party supports increasing the number of elected members of county boards of supervisors from the current five to a minimum of seven members in any county whose population exceeds two million people at the 2020 Decennial Census.
