CDP Chair Statement on Special Election Results

California Democratic Party Chair Eric C. Bauman released the following statement on the results of yesterday's Special Elections in AD54, AD39 and AD45:

"The results from yesterday's Special Elections show that the Resistance is thriving and our progressive values are advancing in California.

I want to congratulate Sydney Kamlager for her decisive victory. California Democrats are proud to support Sydney because we know she will be a phenomenal Member of the Assembly, and our entire state will benefit from having a strong, dynamic and progressive woman of color having a seat at the table, particularly when it comes to ensuring the best higher education possible for California students.

I also want to congratulate Luz Rivas for advancing to the Special General Election. The voters embraced Luz for the same reason the CDP endorsed her: from the moment she graduated from Harvard, she returned to her community and started a nonprofit to inspire girls and young women to develop and pursue their interest in science and engineering. That’s exactly the kind of vision and aspiration we need in Sacramento.

Though the CDP didn't make an endorsement in the Primary, Jesse Gabriel is now our endorsed candidate in AD 45. I have known Jesse Gabriel for many years, through his work as a Constitutional Law attorney, his environmental work and particularly for his work fighting for Dreamers. He will be an outstanding member of the Assembly, and California Democrats are proud to unite around him as our endorsed candidate in the Special General Election.

These results only further energize us as we prepare for a Big Blue Wave in June and November."
