Shanah Tovah! Happy Jewish New Year

Shanah Tovah! Happy New Year!

Tonight marks the beginning of Rosh Hashanah—the Jewish New Year, and the beginning of the High Holy Days that continue through Yom Kippur. While this is certainly a day of celebration, it is also a day of reflection and renewal, where we consider our words and deeds in the previous year, atone for the wrongs we have done, and resolve to use the new year as an opportunity to be better to ourselves and to others.

This year, Rosh Hashanah falls on what is undoubtedly a difficult moment for our country. Let us use this moment as a chance to renew our commitment to stand up for our brothers and sisters who are anxious and fearful right now—the immigrants facing deportation; the chronically ill facing a loss of healthcare; the millions of women, disabled people, people of color, LGBT people, Jews, Muslims, and all those who feel threatened.

This Rosh Hashanah, let us rededicate ourselves to work for a country where we love each other as brothers and sisters, and a peaceful, prosperous and just world for all.
