Special Election Update: Assembly District 55
Due to the election of Laura Richardson to Congress, a Special Election was held for AD 55 on December 11. Warren Furutani led all candidates with 49.2% of the vote, but since no candidate recieved a majority, a Special General Election will be held on Tuesday, February 5, 2008, the same date as California's presidential primary election.
 
Stop the Steal the State Plot
Republicans are collecting signatures to put an initiative for California's June 2008 ballot which would award California's 55 electoral votes by congressional district, rather than the current winner take all -- which 48 states now follow.  In doing so, Republicans have figured they can pick up an additional 20+ electoral votes.  Republicans are proposing this only in California, which has enough electoral votes to impact the results of the election -- in their favor.
 
Bush Talks About Veterans Funding in Texas While Threatening to Veto It in DC
Heading into the Veterans Day holiday weekend, President Bush was in Texas on Thursday to visit an Army medical center in San Antonio. While the President is offering more empty rhetoric about standing with America's veterans and military families, back home in Washington he is preparing to veto Democratic efforts to provide more than $3.8 billion for veterans' employment and re-training programs.
