This summer California faces a budget fight over a projected $8 billion budget shortfall. That budget fight, though, is going to be about a lot more than just a bunch of dry numbers.

It’s going to be a fight about our future. About the direction of our state, our priorities as Californians, our kids and our seniors.

This summer we’re going to have to ask ourselves hard questions. We have to fix an $8 billion deficit. So do we want to cut funding to our schools? Remove the safety net to seniors? Close parks? Or do we want to start charging sales tax on yachts, tax the windfall profits of oil companies, and make the wealthiest Californians pay more?

That’s where you come in. We’re looking for creative Californians up and down the state who can submit 30-second videos that spell out just what’s at stake this summer. This is your chance to tell a story about the issues that stir your passions – and explain why they speak to our shared values and deserve our support. Or you can focus on the danger of letting the Republicans sacrifice the community services that have made our state great, all to enrich their corporate cronies. Your choice.

So get busy filming! The NEW contest deadline is May 18, 2008. You can speak out for your cause, win great cash prizes, and maybe get your video broadcast on TV.

Look for contest rules right here.

And if you need some inspiration, we’ve prepared a list of some of the most outrageous funding cuts proposed by Gov. Schwarzenegger and his Republican allies.
