Candidates

Name   Gender   Candidate Statement

Dan Chmielewski   Male   I am a husband and father, as well as a community volunteer in youth sports leagues and scouting. I am a private business owner of a technology PR firm and the managing editor of TheLiberalOC, a progressive political blog. I am a socially liberal, pro-business Democrat who believes in the power of our party to lead and improve the lives of everyone in California. I have been an Irvine resident since 1997 and will do my best to advance the Party. I would appreciate your support.

Gabriel Orea   Male   I am a student at UC Irvine Law School. I worked on the Obama Campaign in Nevada as a Field Organizer prior to law school. I have been a delegate to the convention for the past two years and would like to continue being active.

David Sonneborn   Male   I seek to continue to actively participate in CDP Convention and E Board meetings, as I have done for @ the last 8 years. I seek to continue as a member of the CDP Legislation Committee, as well as to contribute to other standing committees and caucuses, and to continue to expand upon interactions with other individuals at, and between, such meetings. I seek to continue to help to facilitate critically needed actions, and to help to elect Democrats who hold these actions in high priority. I seek to continue to work to enhance progressive policy development, as well as implementation, at local, state, national and international levels. Si se puede!

Ted Perle   Male   I 'm a lifelong Democrat currently serving as a member of the DPOC Central Committee from the 68th Assembly District as well as an At-Large Delegate to the CDP Disabilities Caucus. I have served as a DSCC Delegate for six years, and, in that position, intend to continue fighting for economic and social justice FOR ALL, full LGBT equality, environmental protection, and especially more than just "a place at the table" for those of us in Orange County and California whom society considers "disabled." Above all, I am committed to the growth, prosperity, and success of both the Democratic Party of Orange County as well as the California Democratic Party.

Michael Fox   Male   My name is Michael Fox. I'm a life-long progressive Democrat. I've been a lawyer for the United Steelworkers Union and an activist for civil rights, gender equality, organized labor, healthcare reform, economic justice and other progressive caucus and policies. I've worked for the campaigns of numerous state and local Democratic candidates, including Betty Yee, Beth Krom and Melissa Fox. I've served as president of the Irvine Democratic Club and as a member of the Executive Board of both the California Democratic Party and the Orange County Democratic Party. I believe that together we can turn Orange County and our wonderfully diverse 68th Assembly District blue. I ask for your vote to continue to serve our community. Thank you.

Eugene Fields   Male   My name is Eugene Fields. I am 41 years old and married. I live in the city of Orange and have lived in Orange County for more than 20 years. I worked as a reporter for the OC Register for more than 15 years, writing about cities, news and government. I currently work as a Communications Specialist and freelance journalist. I was raised by a single mother in South Central Los Angeles who worked two jobs to support us, but taught me the value of community and service, which is why I became a reporter. I am representative of the majority of today's college student: I went back to school at age 36 to finish my degree. I worked two jobs while I worked on earning my degrees. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Master of Public Administration. It was after I earned my bachelor's degree when I realized there were thousands of working adults attempting to earn a college degree. And the options for working adults are slim. In an effort to effect change and serve my immediate community, I recently ran for Mayor of Orange. I am running for this position within the Democratic Party to learn more about the workings of the party, as well as to gain experience in working with

Richard R. Licerio   Male   I am a Husband, Father, Son, Coach and Community Volunteer born and raised in Orange County, California. I am a 3rd generation union member and have helped nurture young apprentices into well rounded Journeyman. I am the President/Director of Sports For All Children. SFAC strives to promote child development and positive healthy living through sports, mentoring and financial assistance. I have worked as a field organizer for numerous Presidential Campaigns dating back to the 1996 Clinton/Gore election. I am seeking a chance to represent the constituents of the 68th District at the 2015 California Democratic Party Convention. I will strive to help the California Democratic Party bring the state back the respect that it deserves. I look forward to serving you

Oscar Reyes   Male   I am a post baccalaureate student at California State University, Fullerton. I am an AVID tutor and aspiring teacher. Recently I was a campaign coordinator for Al Jabbar for trustee to the Anaheim Union High School District; and Volunteer coordinator for Ryan Ruelas for trustee to the Anaheim City School District. After working with these two individuals, I got exposed to a different side of education. As a result, I want to continue to help my community of Anaheim by representing my district, and staying engaged with the Democratic Party.

Edward Garza   Male   I am an active Democrats interested in serving my district and the state of California. I have been an E BOARD member in the past and am interested in continuing my service.

Ken Wyant   Male   Electing Democrats is the goal. We need engagement, organization, enthusiasm and financial resources to get our voters to the polls. You may know me from my work on local, state and national campaigns. I have given time and money to support Democrats at every level. I am active in the Irvine Democratic Club and take the time to speak up on local issues at Irvine City Council meetings. I'm asking for your vote to represent the 68th AD at the State Convention. Let's bring the Democratic success in State-wide elections to Orange County. Working together, we can shape policies and strategies to empower all people, not just the profiteers who exercise far too much influence over our communities. Let's make government serve us, our students, the disabled, minorities and people of color, our veterans, retirees and all of us who want to make a living, protect our environment and keep our communities safe. I respectfully ask for your vote for convention delegate. Thanks in advance for your support.

Melahat Rafiei   Female   The best kind of life is, I think, one where you stick with the things that matter to you. For me, that list would include my family, home and work and I'm back in Orange County! OC residential credentials now include Anaheim Hills (Canyon High!), Placentia, Santa Ana, Costa Mesa and Orange! My professional life as a consultant has increasingly focused on more local races, although my political activism began in the presidential campaign of 2004. As a rising political consultant, I have been helping Democrats get elected from Anaheim, Orange, Santa Ana, Irvine, Garden Grove as well as working on judicial races and ballot measures. I'm a believer in public service; it's part of being a dedicated Democrat. As a part of that commitment, I have been a delegate to the state party for over a decade. I've had the honor to serve on the CDP's Rules Committee, and currently serve on the Finance Committee. I would be honored to represent Democrats in the 68th AD. I humbly ask for your support.

Melissa Fox   Female   My name is Melissa Fox. I am an attorney, business owner, wife, mother, veterans' advocate and dedicated community activist. I have been an endorsed Democratic candidate for Irvine City Council in 2014 (losing by only 0.3% of the vote) and for the California State Assembly in 2010. I am proud to have been endorsed by the O.C. Labor Federation, the League of Conservation Voters, the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood, Women in Leadership and many other progressive organizations. I have served as a member of the Irvine Community Services Commission, as president of both the California and the Orange County National Women's Political Caucus, and in the Orange County Park Ranger Reserve. I ask for your vote to continue to serve you as an advocate for progressive change and for a government that serves all of the people. Thank you.

Christina Avalos   Female   I am actively involved with the Democratic Party in Orange County. I serve on the 72nd ADA Board as the Recording Secretary entering my 8th year on the Board. I ran for Congressional Office and State Assembly as an endorsed candidate by the Democratic Party. I volunteer for Democratic Candidates campaigning and helping to set up public forums for them. Most recent was for Betty Yee. As a Democrat, I work on building network relations and serve on their Boards such as Chicano Unidos and SCADA.
