Candidates

Name   Gender   Candidate Statement

Joshua Steele   Male   My name is Joshua Steele, and I am the outgoing Executive Secretary for California State University, Northridge Young Democrats. I have served in this position since December 2012 and I have managed meetings, planned and coordinated events, participated in campaigns for local Democratic candidates, and engaged in networking with local Democratic Party activists and leaders, local elected officials, candidates and staffers. I have also worked as an intern for the Los Angeles County Democratic Party. In addition, I have dutifully and eagerly served as delegate at the 2013 and 2014 CDP Conventions. Last but certainly not least, I am a committed progressive who will help to move our state and nation in a leftward direction.

Donald Gold   Male   i am interested in keeping california democrats as the majority party in the state. I also want to find ways to influence the country to return the democrats to a majority in the congress and the presidency in 2016 election.

David Gershwin   Male   I am a lifelong Democrat, and I have lived in the Los Angeles area since 1987. My family and I recently moved here to the San Fernando Valley community of Valley Village. Here in Valley Village, my daughter attends Colfax Charter Elementary School, where I also volunteer each week. I am a former fundraising director for the Los Angeles County Young Democrats and I am proud to have worked for then-Lt. Governor Gray Davis (who became Governor), Council President Alex Padilla (our next CA Secretary of State), and Council President Eric Garcetti (now our Mayor). My goals as a delegate will be the following: (a) to increase Democratic voter registration and participation in Assembly District 46 and throughout California (b) to protect our Democratic majorities in both houses of the State Legislature (c) to help elect a Democratic President and to regain Democratic majorities in Congress in 2016. I ask for your vote so I can be one of the AD46 delegates to the California Democratic Party so our party may be even stronger in 2015 and beyond.

Daniel Tamm   Male   Iam engaged in the Democratic Party because we fight for equality for all, economic justice, protecting the environment and shining a light on big money in politics. We're willing to organize, build coalitions and communicate our message of inclusiveness. This is exactly what I've done as a grassroots organizer with purpose since 2003. Working to elect Democratic candidates and win forward-thinking ballot measures, I’ve strived to advance a progressive agenda and prosperity for all (www.commongoodcampaigns.com).Currently, I am a liaison for Mayor Eric Garcetti. I was a co-founder of Valley Grassroots for Democracy. I serve on the E-Board of DP/SFV and LACDP. As current CDP E-Board Rep, I’ve helped to shape progressive policy in the party and win Democratic gains in California. We must be vigilant in opposing delays to full implementation of AB32, stopping the tuition hikes in the UC system, supporting the rights of working families, net neutrality and keeping Social Security offices open. It is also time to overturn the disastrous “top two” primary. Let’s do this together. I need your help. I ask for your vote.

Clifford Tasner   Male   Clifford J. Tasner has been a delegate for the past 2 years as part of the Progressive Caucus. He is also in the Environmental and Labor Caucuses. He is the Secretary and Chair of Endorsements for the Southern California chapter of Americans for Democratic Action. For the last 14 years, he has been writing and producing the songs for the political satire group The Billionaires to inform and educate on the hijacking of our political system by corporate interests. He works in the film music industry as a composer and orchestrator. California is a blue state that conservative forces exploiting the initiative process (with Prop. 13 and the new measure which eliminated the party primary) have made almost ungovernable. As we witness Tea-Party governors across the country working to bust the unions and curtail voting rights, we here in California have a unique opportunity to push back and demonstrate the progressive principles that we hold dear can succeed in making a more just and equitable society. As a delegate, I will work to make sure that our state party's platform represents that best that California can be rather than the 'best we could hope for under the circumstances' on as d

Greg Reeves   Male   I thank you for your consideration, and would ask that you vote for me to represent you as a delegate to our party's convention. As the President of the Studio Electrical Lighting Technicians Union Local 728, I am well-versed in the challenges facing working families as well as the politics specific to our cause. I am a third generation Angeleno on both sides. From teachers, to police officers, veterans, and small business owners, my family like yours has fought hard for our way of life. I continue that fight. I need you help. Thank you.

Gustavo Barragan   Male   My name is Gustavo Barragan, and I am the current treasurer of for California State University, Northridge Young Democrats. I currently serve on two statewide task forces for the California College Democrats. I have participated in various campaigns for Democratic candidates and engaged in networking with local Democratic Party activists and leaders. I am committed to moving our state forward.

Chavez Ricardo   Male   I have been a virulent democrat for my entire political life. I want to bring my personal passion to politics and extend my life experiences to help all Californians reach for their own hopes and dreams. A vote for me will help to ensure a better California for today and in the years to come.

Brad Parker   Male   I have been an activist, organizer, political writer and speaker in Progressive and Democratic Party organizations for many years. I am currently a California Democratic Party-DSCC, Delegate, in the 46th AD. I served on the CDP Platform committee and co-wrote several planks of the platform. Over the last several years I have been active in the following political organizations: Valley Democrats United, President and the California Clean Money Action Fund, Board Member. I have worked extensively on Copyright and Net Neutrality issues, both in Washington D.C. and here in the California Democratic Party. My book, "Left Turn Only - Dispatches from the Progressive Underground," chronicles the modern Progressive Movement from 2003 to 2009. I am the Executive Director of the "Center for Progressive Economics" ~ www.cpe.us.com ~ and a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 47. I ask for your vote for DSCC delegate to continue my work inside and outside of the CDP and I thank you for your support.

Ovanes Chobanian   Male

Paul Krekorian   Male   As a Los Angeles City Councilmember, District 2, I represent much of AD 46. I am a lifelong Democrat and third generation San Fernando Valley resident. I have been honored as "Democrat of the Year" for AD 46 by the LA County Democratic Party, as well as "Volunteer of the Year" by the Democratic Party of the San Fernando Valley. I have founded two Democratic clubs, served as a member of the LA County Democratic Party Central Committee and been involved in grassroots democratic activism since I was 18, when I served as USC campus coordinator for Jerry Brown's first gubernatorial reelection campaign. My work was instrumental in transforming Valley areas from Republican to Democratic majority, and I have been the primary force in empowering the Armenian immigrant community and moving those new citizens to our party. I believe the Democratic Party upholds the most important values in our society: inclusiveness, fairness, equality, justice and progress. It is the only bulwark against the corrosive elements that disrupt our democratic system. My commitment to progressive ideals and to strengthening our party is why I am running for ADEMS.

Jose Sandoval   Male

Aram Kaloustian   Male   I wish to participate in the democratic party policy decision making process with a greater level of activism and participation. I hope that my years of engineering and environmental management experience will be beneficial to the Democratic Party objectives more extensively.

Larry Gross   Male   I'm the Executive Director of the Coalition for Economic Survival, a grassroots multi-racial, multi-cultural organization. For 42 years, I have been organizing low and moderate income people to win economic justice. My work contributed to wining rent control in LA & WeHo, creating the City of WeHo & enactment of practically everyLA law protecting tenants. For the last 2 years, I was Assemblymember Nazarian's appointed delegate. I would be proud to now be an elected delegate representing AD 46.

Areen Ibranossian   Male   As Chief of Staff to Councilmember Paul Krekorian, I have been constantly involved in making Los Angeles a more progressive city. I got my first taste of politicsby working on Rep Schiff first campaign to take out Republican Jim Rogan. From there i got involved in working on many municipal and state races. As a long time progressive, I think its important to make sure we continue to fight for the ideas that Democrats really stand for. Issues like Prop 13 Reform, Campaign Finance Reform, Meaningful Banking Reform and a sensible foreign policy. I am proud to represent the progressive wing for the Democratic Party and I am looking forward to your support for the ADEM elections for AD 46!

Bizhan Alikhaani   Male   I first got involved with the Democratic Party as a student. Since then, I have been active by voting, participating in and supporting various Democratic Party activities to help promote the party's platform values and related community issues. As a former 39th AD Delegate in 2007, past member of the CADEM Standing Committee for Voter Registration & Outreach and DSCC delegate, I understand and value the needs of our communities and I am a team player to help make a positive difference. My goal is to work to address the primary concerns of families and individuals relating to quality-of-life issues throughout our communities including healthcare, jobs, education, and affordable housing. My professional experience includes years of service in the housing and finance sector. I am also a long time community health volunteer patient advocate. My past volunteer involvement also includes support for party candidates, serving as a campaign volunteer for presidential campaigns, work with Democrats Abroad as well as participating in California State Democratic Party Conventions as a delegate. I appreciate your consideration and I would love your vote. I am honored to serve.

Lester Aponte   Male   I have been interested and involved in politics all my life. I first walked precincts in my own neighborhood in Puerto Rico when I was 14. Since then, I have given a lot of my time and money to political campaigns on both coasts and a dozen states. In 1991, I volunteered for the presidential campaign of the then Governor of Arkansas, Bill Clinton. Few gave him a chance then and we Democrats had lost three consecutive presidential elections and were facing a popular incumbent. Those of us who were in early, remember the dark days when the campaign seemed headed to disaster before the New Hampshire primary was even held. But we kept the faith. Working on that campaign (I translated speeches, helped organize fundraisers, was a surrogate speaker, went to fairs, etc.) and helping Bill Clinton get elected after we were told Democrats could not win a national election is the best thing I ever did. But I was disillusioned by the way hangers on then flooded the campaign looking to gain power and influence out of their late conversions to the Clinton cause. After that, I found it hard to get involved in other campaigns because I often found a resistance from some to allow anyone in

Oscar Garcia   Male

Guadalupe Garcia   Female   Regardless of need, lack of social capital prevents progress. Lack of information and access to needed or desired services is the overarching issue that affects all communities. Our communities require bridge-builders: people with access to who can facilitate connections with needed services. I have been very successful at implementing much needed, but difficult, transitions while accommodating varying needs. I believe the same can be achieved on a larger scale and with broader populations. As a first generation immigrant and college student, I know the need for strong and proactive agents in ensuring educational and economic success and the role of an effective leader in meeting institutional and community needs. I have extensive experience in academic management, and I wish to extend my experience onto a larger scale. I aspire to be a liaison between organizations and leaders who serve residents of various communities and the people who stand to benefit from their services.

I believe the Democratic Party has a responsibility to ensure the voice of our members is heard throughout the state of California and our country. I believe, it is imperative for Democrats to be active participants in upcoming elections, specially, the impending presidential election by seeking voter registration and participation, regain the majority in Congress, and bring positive influence and change to our local communities. I have been honored to have been able to help on the campaigns of some of our progressive Valley elected officials including Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Paul Krekorian, Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian and many others.
