Candidates

Name   Gender   Candidate Statement

Carla Neal   Female   I am running for the 2015 Assembly District Delegate with the California Democratic Party because I feel I can bring insight, passion, ideas, loyalty and strong democratic values and character to the delegation. I am deeply committed to sustainability of California with good jobs, solid education and healthy communities and cities to grow the middle class, eradicate poverty and to ensure equity for all. I will work to help California lead in the world economy with a triple bottom line and to remain a light and leader of democracy. I support all people in California and particularly, the central valley, in the American Dream to reach goals, progress, develop character and succeed in life, education and in work.
Isabel Barreras   Female

Carolyn J. CRAWFORD DAVIS   Female   My name is Carolyn J. Crawford Davis. I live in Mono County, a relatively neglected county on the east side of the Sierra Nevada. We are too far away to vote in this ADEM election, but sparsely populated as we are, our voting percentage in the last election was 53%. I am a retired teacher and CTA member. I taught special ed. for 36 years. I was president of our CTA district union for about 10 years. I have been a member of the Mono County DCC since 2000. In March 2014, my husband and I were selected as the Volunteers of the Year for Region 4. I run two pages on the internet for our committee, https://www.facebook.com/monocountydemocrats and http://democracy.com/MonoCountyDemocraticParty. I'm a member of the Labor, Progressive, Rural and Environmental Caucuses. I'd like to see more power for the grassroots in the CA Democratic Party...and more gumption. As we have seen from the last election, California is the last blue bastion defending this entire country from becoming an oligarchy controlled by the rich. What we do sets an example and influences the rest of the U.S.

Billie Jelks-Hood   Female   I have been involved in politics since I thirteen years old. I have been a delegate for the past five years. More than ever the Democrats really need to work to get our party more involved, and to get our voters out to vote.

CAREY WILSON   Female   We rural Democrats have much work that needs to be done. I am prepared and committed to representing our Assembly District as a Delegate. I had the privilege to serve as a Convention Delegate Proxy twice and now I seek to directly fill a Delegate position. I am a Member of the Madera County Democratic Party, the Madera and Oakhurst Democratic Clubs and serve on the Political Action Committee of the Fresno County Democratic Women's Club. I am the proud recipient of the 2014 Democratic Grassroots Spirit Award for Madera County. As a 23 year Union Member, I stand with working families. I currently hold positions on a few labor boards and in leadership. In addition I have boots to the ground experience on numerous electoral campaigns and successful voter registration drives. I am a Community Activist on issues to protect the air we breathe, the water we drink and the roads we travel. I am a progressive voice for job and retirement security, healthcare for all, public education and for animal and human rights. I respectfully request your vote to be a Convention Delegate for our Assembly District. Please contact me at renedawnmom@gmail.com if you have questions about my campaign.

Sally Trestrail   Female   I have been active with the Amador DCC since 1992. I have held positions as Secretary of the old 4th AD, Secretary and Chair to the ACDCC as well as E-Board member. I have served on the Platform Committee and Organizational Committee. I am presently a member of the ACDCC.

Janet Bell   Female   A lifelong Democrat and Board member of the Auburn area Democratic Club, Janet Bell is seeking a position to become more integrally involved in the democratic process. In 2012 Jan was a neighborhood team leader for the Obama campaign and has recently worked on Heidi Hall and CJ Jawahar's campaigns. With a Master's degree and over 40 years business management experience, Jan also brings an understanding of marketing, budgeting and information technology to the political process.

Lowell Young   Male   My name is Lowell Young. I am running for re-election as one of your 12 Assembly District 5 (AD5) delegates to the California State Democratic Party. Since my election as an AD 5 delegate in Jan. 2013, I have represented you at every party convention and executive board meeting. If re-elected, I will continue to do so in the future. In addition to being one of you AD5 delegates, I am a member of the State Party's Affirmative Action Standing Committee. I am a member of the Mariposa and Oakhurst Democratic Clubs and serve as the Treasurer of the Mariposa County Democratic Central Committee. I also plan to run for the position of AD5's Executive Board representative to the State Party. And if elected, I will establish and maintain a communications link with the other AD5 delegates and all of the County Central Committees in the district. I would appreciate your vote. You can contact me at: Email lyoung_dem@ymail.com Phone 209-966-2547 Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Assembly-District-5/607582906030548

Michael Patterson   Male   As an democratic activist in El Dorado County and a member of the county central committee I would like to continue my work on the state party. I am a teacher and active union member. I chair the California Teachers Association's statewide PAC and my local union PAC. Thank you for your consideration.

Donald Nielsen   Male   I would very much like to be elected or appointed as a delegate. Through my work I am involved in the democratic/legislative process. I believe in its potential power for acheiving justice, which truly should be for all. I would therefore like to participate directly in whatever way possible. I am a long-time member and supporter of the Democratic Party. Thank you.

Frank Santos   Male   Contact me at uninsantos@gmail.com. I am a retired staff representative for the Machinists Union where I led negotiations for labor agreements across the US. I have been politically active in democratic politics locally and nationally since the 70's. I am a PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT. We need to find ways to motivate people to vote if our democracy is to work. I am adamant about supporting the needs of the working poor and middle class, ending and reversing job loss due to fast tracked trade agreements, creating jobs by rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, raising the minimum wage to a living wage, improving our social safety net, adopting a single payer Medicare for all health care system, making higher education available to all who desire it, ending wealth disparity by properly taxing the wealthy and corporations, supporting women's issues, labor unions, moving away from fossil fuels, ending the strangle hold the rich and corporations have on our political systems by way of recent SCOTUS rulings (Citizens Unites) and breaking up banks that are too big to fail. We need to elect progressive candidates who run on and have a record of supporting progressive agendas. I am active in CAR

Frederic Martin   Male   Recent conversations, with many volunteers, have convinced me that I can bring my technical abilities and deep computer technology knowledge to my local DCCs. I have moved around a lot in my life and, over a decade ago, have settled in the central valley. This is where I live and where I want to make a focused difference, with national impact when possible. I have found myself in profound political disagreement with many, in this mostly republican area of the state, and am eager to participate in activities with like-minded liberals. In this area, the word "liberal" is primarily used as an insult: a word that is directly extracted from our most cherished American value, that of personal and collective liberty. Liberals do not accept the status quo; liberals question authority and strive for the betterment of everyone's life, by implementing well thought-out policies, designed though the respectful and constructive work of many. Our country needs more liberals who believe that corporate board rooms should never trump government by and for the people. Corporations do not have souls, are not persons and should be redefined as the virtual entities they can and should only be.

Peter Leinau   Male   Hi Fellow Democrats! Peter Leinau, Oakhurst Democratic Club member and AD 5 Progressive Delegate here- As an AD 5 delegate for 3 terms (since 2008) I have been active in the drafting and adoption of progressive platform planks and party resolutions against the death penalty, in favor of environmental protection and conservation, against nuclear energy; in favor of peace and against war, assassinations, and drones; in support of labor protections and against so called "free trade"; in favor of single payer healthcare and funding for rural hospitals, and more. I have phone-banked for our progressive candidates and made calls for our progressive causes. My activism began in the 70's for the California Coastal Initiative and continued through activism and street actions for the environment and against wars I have spent my career as science teacher and environmental educator, and am proud of my multiple terms as a CTA local President, Grievance Chair and member of the bargaining team. I respectfully request your vote to be one of your 12 AD-5 Delegates to continue our work together for a better, more progressive CA Democratic Party and a better tomorrow for our children! Thank You!

Dave Smart   Male   As a leader of Mountain Community Forum, an affiliate of Move to Amend, I stand squarely on the platform that money is not speech and that constitutional rights are for living persons, not corporations. But also what I see is that corporations act on more than just their so-called constitutional rights; they act like bullies. I believe we must stand up to their bullying; we can do that by not being intimidated by them, and by recognizing that bullying is mostly a bluff. This is true in all corporation-dominated areas: health care, GMO foods, telecommunications, extraction industries, military industries, prison industries and many more. As an Assembly District Delegate I will not be intimidated and I will call bluffs.

James "Lex" Bufford   Male   I am a small businessman and farmer from Madera County, the heart of the great San Joaquin Valley. I am running as an Assembly District Delegate to the California Democratic Convention to represent my County and the Democratic Party voters in my district. I am currently an elected member of the Madera County Democratic Central Committee. I have been privileged to serve as the endorsed candidate/nominee of the California Democratic Party for Congress and the State Assembly. I am a five term Member of the Madera County Democratic Central Committee and I am currently serving as the President of the Madera Democratic Club. Your Vote would appreciated.
