SACRAMENTO – The California Democratic Party today released TheRealCatharineBaker.com, a website highlighting the strongly conservative record of Republican Assemblymember Catharine Baker.
TheRealCatharineBaker.com details Assemblymember Baker’s conservative voting record on issues important to her district, including voting against access to women’s healthcare, comprehensive gun control, and protecting the environment. Since being elected in 2014, Baker has voted with the Republican Party almost 87% of the time, more than the average Republican Assemblymember.
The California Democratic Party has endorsed Cheryl Cook-Kallio, who is running against Baker in Assembly District 16, and launched the first TV ad in the race earlier this week. Cook-Kallio is an award-winning teacher and former city councilmember, and has received endorsements from elected officials throughout the state, including Treasurer John Chiang, Controller Betty Yee, and Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom. She has a strong track record of fighting to increase access to women’s healthcare and to ensure every child has a world-class education.
The demographics of Assemblymember Baker’s district strongly favor a Democrat, with a 10-point registration advantage and strong support for Governor Brown and President Obama. The district is the only legislative seat in the Bay Area currently held by a Republican.
