Governor Brown’s signing of SB 32 and AB 197 will reduce global warming emissions and limit pollution by refineries, which are often located in our poorest communities. The Democratic leaders of the Senate and Assembly deserve credit for their leadership in deepening our state’s commitment to cleaner air and safer communities.
Ten years ago Democrats in the Legislature passed AB 32 to start us on this historic path, and it was signed by a Republican governor. It’s hard to imagine that happening today when nearly every California Republican voted against the bills and the guy at the top of the Republican ticket says climate change is a “hoax” manufactured by China. Which is coincidentally where his ties are manufactured too.
