WrongforCA.com is launching a week of action to expose the California Congressional candidates who are standing with Donald Trump – including digital playing cards that flip to reveal the “jokers” who are running for Congress on the Trump platform.
One recent projection shows California with four vulnerable Republican members of Congress, more than any other state. Strong voter turnout here can help Democrats erase Republicans’ Congressional majority and enact Hillary Clinton’s plan to invest in good jobs to build the middle class.
With less than a week before the first Presidential Debate on September 26, Republican congressional candidates’ support for Trump continues to hurt them with California voters.
Trump has denied the California drought, called climate change a Chinese hoax, demeaned Latinos and women, and proposed an economic plan that erases many of the new jobs gained under Governor Jerry Brown.
A national poll in August showed Americans want to see Democrats in control of Congress.
“While California Democrats have pushed forward the nation’s most progressive agenda for a strong economy and cleaner air, Republicans in Congress have failed California on every front,” said Michael Soller, communications director for the California Democratic Party. “The road to taking back Congress runs right through California. Voters here are going to see Republicans’ support for Trump for what it is: a sick joke.”
Who is Wrong for CA?
Congressman Darrell Issa (CA-49) is in the tightest race of his political life against Democrat and retired Marine Corps Colonel Doug Applegate, and Issa’s record of putting his own interests first is again under scrutiny.
Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones challenging Rep. Ami Bera (CA-7) is under fire for the pattern of disrespect he shows toward women – including allegations of sexual misconduct toward a 26-year-old subordinate.
Congressman David Valadao (CA-21) is under pressure from Democrat Emilio Huerta for voting with hard right Republicans to tear apart immigrant families.
Congressman Jeff Denham (CA-10) is locked in a tight race with Democrat Michael Eggman. Denham’s wealth has increased up to 29 times since he’s been in Congress, and he bragged about his lead role in helping Trump get a government contract for a new Washington, D.C., luxury hotel.
Congressman Steve Knight (CA-25) is in a tossup race with Democrat Bryan Caforio in the last Los Angeles County seat held by a Republican. Knight said that “Social Security was a bad idea” and opposes abortion even in the case of rape, incest, or the life of the mother.
In the open seat in CA-24, Santa Barbara Supervisor Salud Carbajal leads Republican Justin Fareed, who has endorsed Trump, supported House Republicans’ radical Planned Parenthood witch hunt, and wants to expand oil drilling even on the fragile Central Coast.
Rep. Scott Peters (CA-52) is facing Denise Gitsham, whose roots in hard-right politics go back to her early career with Bush henchman Karl Rove and who wants to defund Planned Parenthood, eliminating access to services like cervical and breast cancer screenings.
