SACRAMENTO – The California Democratic Party announced the hiring of two new communications team members to spearhead communications for the Party’s 2015-2016 campaign cycle.
Michael Soller will lead the team as Communications Director after serving in the same capacity for Public Counsel, the nation’s largest pro bono law firm. Soller is a communications professional with more than 10 years experience in the California media market. His past stints have included SEIU Local 721 and working as an opinion page editor for the Los Angeles Times.
Also new to the team will be Candelaria Vargas, who will serve as Digital Content Producer. Vargas was regional field director for U.S. Rep. Jerry McNerney’s 2014 re-election campaign and will be responsible for developing content for the organization’s growing digital operations.
Eric Wong will remain as Campaign and Communications Associate and will continue to be responsible for media monitoring, research and maintaining the department’s database of media contacts.
"The Democratic Party has helped create a new day for California,” said Shawnda Westly, Executive Director of the California Democratic Party. “From erasing the budget deficit to ending the cuts to education and expanding economic opportunity for all Californians, we’re proud of our Democratic achievements. We’re confident we have a communications team in place that knows how to tell our Party’s story in a way that resonates with voters.”
