Earlier this morning we received very bad news from former CDP Executive Director Kathy Bowler, informing us that long-time Party staffer Robert Jordan passed away after a long battle with lymphoma. Staff and extended Democratic family are stunned and saddened by this news. Robert selflessly served the California Democratic Party for twenty-two years and through four administrations.
As one of the longest serving staff members, he was the Party's unofficial historian whose institutional memory we came to rely on time and again on issues large and small. From Party ByLaws to endorsements and resolutions, Robert's meticulous memory and prodigious command of Party procedures served this institution and its members well.
Our delegates and committee members will no doubt remember Robert as a knowledgeable and helpful presence at Executive Board meetings and annual convention. Those Democratic gatherings will not be the same without him.
For the staff of The Party, he was much more than a fellow co-worker, he was mentor, a friend, a brother and we grieve as an extended family knowing that we are poorer without him but thankful he has found rest. Funeral arrangements are yet to be finalized but we will be sharing information as it becomes available.
