After forty years serving in the House of Representatives, one of California and the nation's foremost advocates is stepping down.
I had the pleasure of serving both in the State Assembly and Congress with Henry Waxman. Henry leaves behind a legacy of accomplishments to the benefit of all Americans. Among his achievements: increasing federal funding to combat H.I.V. and AIDS, expanding health coverage to poor and working class children through the CHIP program, strengthening food safety laws and helping to pass the Affordable Care Act.
In addition to helping craft and pass landmark legislation, his investigations into Wall Street abuses, tobacco companies and energy companies like Enron, helped influence regulatory practices for the better in those industries.
Henry has served the people of California well and we're confident the voters of the 33rd Congressional District will elect a leader who is worthy to stand in his shoes.
