Statement of California Democratic Party African-American Caucus Chair Darren Parker on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day

Today we honor the legacy and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. King\'s tireless work paved the way for great change in democracy, civil rights and social justice. And though we\'ve made great strides towards a more just and equal society, there is still much work to be done. Dr. King\'s unfinished life\'s work opened the door for others to carry the torch, to continue to shed light on the injustices that still exist in this world, and to make meaningful change.

As we look forward to President Obama\'s second inauguration, our great nation has the opportunity to work together and move towards a more perfect union. In the words of Dr. King, "If you can\'t fly then run, if you can\'t run then walk, if you can\'t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward."
