Van Jones will be honored guest at Chairmans reception Friday night; Eli Paperboy Reed featured performer at DEM 2012 concert Saturday night
Sacramento The 2012 California Democrats State Convention will take place in San Diego on the weekend of February 10-12 at the San Diego Convention Center and Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel. As the largest gathering of Democrats in California the event is expected to draw more than 3,000 Party activists, delegates, volunteers, elected officials and media.
Governor Jerry Brown will address the convention general session on Saturday morning as will Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. Delegates and observers can expect to hear from all of Californias statewide elected officials.
Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) will be the featured speaker at the Saturday luncheon and Senator Al Franken (D-MN) will headline the Saturday dinner event.
The event schedule, including times and location for all Caucus meetings is available on the convention website: http://cademconvention.org/convention-information/event-schedule/
"California Democrats recognize weve got a unique opportunity on our hands here in California this election cycle," said John Burton, chairman of the California Democratic Party. "We're going to work hard to re-elect President Obama and Senator Feinstein; but were also going to focus on electing more Democrats to the House of Representatives in swing districts across the state to make Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House again. We need to give the President a Congress thats actually interested in working with him, not against him, and California has an outsized role to play in that fight."
"At the state level weve got work to do electing a two-thirds Democratic majority in both houses of the legislature and helping Governor Brown pass a ballot initiative that will restore desperately needed revenue to save our schools and public safety programs."
"Finally, were going to spend a great deal of time educating our fellow Democrats on the need to beat back the latest corporate power grab that aims to silence the voice of working families and unions at the ballot box in November," said Burton.
The convention kicks off Friday night with the Chairmans reception hosted by Chairman Burton and guest of honor Van Jones. Van Jones is the co-founder of Rebuild the Dream and author of New York Times bestseller The Green Collar Economy.
In addition, soul singer and recording artist Eli Paperboy Reed band will headline the Partys DEM (Donate Every Month) 2012 concert on Saturday night.
More than 3,000 attendees -- delegates, activists, volunteers, elected officials and members of the press -- are expected at this years convention.
