Contest Rules

  1. Your video must be 30 seconds long
     
  2. Your video must end by asking viewers to take action by signing a petition at www.summerofchange08.com (* the language for the petition is at the bottom of this rules page)
     
  3. Deadline for video submission submission has been extended to 11:59 p.m. PDT, May 18, 2008
     
  4. Submit your video by uploading it to YouTube and tagging it “Summer of Change ‘08” and then completing the entry form at www.cadem.org/contestentry (deadline passed)
     
  5. On May 20, the videos will be uploaded to www.summerofchange08.com where round 1 of online voting will take place from May 20 through 9:00 p.m. PDT, May 27, 2008
     
  6. Encourage your family, friends and co-workers to go online and vote for your video in Round 1
     
  7. Winners in the first round will be determined by a panel of judges (TBA) using the following criteria: 25% creativity, 25% message, 10% production, 40% votes received
     
  8. The top five videos will be announced on May 28, 2008, and then Round 2 of the voting will begin
     
  9. The winner of Round 2 will be determined solely by popular vote. So get everyone you know to come and vote. Work it!
     
  10. Voting in Round 2 will close at 9:00 p.m. PDT, May 31, 2008
     
  11. The winner will be announced on June 5, 2008
     
  12. First prize will be $5,000
     
  13. Second prize will be $3,000
     
  14. The other finalists will each receive $1,000
     
  15. The best videos will be put on a DVD to be shown at house parties throughout California
     
  16. The winning video may be broadcast on TV
     
  17. By entering this contest, the creators of the video agree to give the California Democratic Party the legal right to copy and broadcast the video in any manner the CDP deems appropriate
     
  18. The CDP reserves the right to reject any videos that it deems inappropriate

We believe that our leaders need to act courageously and creatively to find budget solutions that preserve essential programs that will improve and protect California for us, our children, and future generations.
